Roberto Mancini has admitted to the Daily Record that Celtic have the upper hand as he leads his team Zenit St. Petersburg into their clash with The Hoops in the Europa League on Thursday.
Celtic have been making waves in the Scottish Premier League, and they seem to be on top of their game.
However, where Celtic had a short winter break, Zenit resumed action on the back of a lengthy winter break.
The Russian side is yet to feature in a competitive game since the beginning of this year 2018.
And Mancini admits that Celtic have an edge over them as they head into the competition.
“Our biggest problem could be that we haven’t played a competitive match in a long time,” Mancini said. “Our last game was two months ago and that’s a long time to wait.
“Will this be an advantage to Celtic? Well, it’s certainly a disadvantage for us. But we will have to deal with the problem if we hope to go further in the competition.”
Celtic are desperate to excel in the European tournament, and Brendan Rodgers has made no bones of his desire to take the Europa League seriously.
Celtic seem to be making an easy procession to the Scottish Premiership title, so their match against Zenit is of high importance.
Celtic qualified for the Europa League knockout stages by finishing in third place in the Champions League group.
