Premier League side Manchester United are planning to make a bid worth €56 million for Barcelona starlet Sergio Busquets, as per report from Spanish news outlet Don Balon.
The Sky Blues’ boss Pep Guardiola believes he can lure the Spanish midfielder away from Barcelona for €56 million despite the presence of a €200 million release clause in the 29-year-old’s contract.
Busquets made his first team debut in 2008 just two months after Guardiola emerged as the Blaugrana manager. The 29-year-old has been an integral part of the La Liga side and also the Spain national team ever since he made his first appearance in the senior team.
The defensive midfielder’s contract with Barcelona is valid till the summer of 2021 and comprises a hefty release clause of €200 million.
Meanwhile, words have been on the grapevine for a while of the Catalan club eyeing a move for Liverpool midfielder Philippe Coutinho and are believed to be close to sealing a deal to secure the Brazilian’s signature in January or, at the very least next summer, leading Guardiola to believe he can convince his former team to let Busquets move to Manchester City.
If the report by Don Balon is anything to go by, Guardiola desires a reunion with Busquets and is convinced an offer of €56 million would be enough to convince Barcelona to sell, especially with Coutinho expected to move to the Etihad in the near future. There are many reliable sports betting sites offering the best odds for the transfer window, ahead of a potential transfer signing in the January.
Manchester City’s current defensive midfielder Fernandinho is in the final months of his contract, but according to reports, the player has already penned a new deal. If the reports are true, the Premier League leaders will have two solid defensive midfielders in their squad.
Even though Guardiola can use his Barcelona connection to try and bring Busquets down to England, it is unlikely the Catalan side will relieve their key midfielder of his contract. Coutinho’s arrival will not alter the club’s stance, as the Brazilian is an attacking midfielder, a different breed from Busquets.
It also has to be noted that Don Balon have not always been the most trustworthy of sources, so it is better to give little credit to this rumour.
