Liverpool might be set for some transfer celebration this time around as Lazio are willing to consider selling their star Sergej Milinkovic-Savic if they get the right offer.
According to Corriere dello Sport (via talkSPORT), the Italian club recently turned down a £24 million bid from the Reds but the same media outlet (Corriere dello Sport) is now claiming that the Serie A club will realease the Serbian for a price of €70million (£64million), which would continue the ridiculously high summer fees being spent this summer.
The report further stated that the Serbian U21 is not short of suitors as Italian clubs such as Inter Milan and Juventus are willing to go head to head in competition for the youngster.
Former PSV Eindhoven and Chelsea striker Mateja Kezman, who is the representative for the 22-year-old, had earlier stated that his client was not ready to set his foot out of the Serie A club at the moment but it now appears that the Serbian will make a move for the right price.
The 22-year-oldb found the net seven times in 38 appearances for the Serie A outfit and is contracted until 2022 but the big problem is where the midfielder will be fitted when Anfield is full of players who are as good as he is. Emre Can, Georginio Wijnaldum, James Milner, Adam Lallana and even Philippe Coutinho, for now, will be first-team choices while Milinkovic-Savic would possibly play only the cup games and spend more time on the bench.
Another hindrance will be his price tag, with Lazio asking for a rather crazy amount that no one might want to pay. This seems to be a ploy employed by all the clubs in the summer, as pricing a player to an astronomical figure does scare potential buyers away.
The 22-year-old might want to join a bigger club with hope of getting more playing time but this is not the year to make such a decision as he is having a decent enough time at Lazio.
Considering that this is a World Cup year, moving to another club can lead to a player losing their form, especially in a new country. We are in for a tough battle ahead of the season and the last thing the Reds need is to splash €70million on Milinkovic-Savic.
