Manchester United are reportedly ready to dish out £177m to acquire the signature of Real Madrid star Marco Asensio, according to Spanish media outlet Don Balon.
The 21-year-old’s value has risen at a rapid rate to the top European football following his £3m move to Real Madrid in 2015. Asensio has featured in 56 games for the European and La Liga champions, registering 17 goals and six top notch assists.
Asensio’s outstanding performances for Spain in the U21 European Championship during the summer aided his ascension to the top, while also continuing his astounding display in both legs of the Supercopa de Espana against Barcelona at the beginning of the current campaign.
It is no surprise that he has garnered attention from across Europe, with many fans believing that Asensio is heading for the top of the game.
However, it is impossible for Real Madrid to gladly entertain the idea of reliving their most important player of his contract at the Santiago Bernabeu so early in his career, no matter how mouthwatering the £461k-a-week contract that United to put on the table will be.
There is a great deal of necessity for Madrid to sign another Spanish player at the club and although Asensio’s first-team place is far from being established, Asensio’s has been an integral part of Zinedine Zidane’s good run already this season.
The ex-Espanyol loanee has been deployed to four different positions this season, with his preferred role on either wing.
However, the young Spaniard can also be played as an attacking midfielder or a second striker and the La Liga giants are unlikely to let him go anytime soon.
