Manchester United and Newcastle injury woes ahead of Saturday clash

Newcastle manager Rafael Benitez is likely to be missing several of his key players this weekend when his team takes a trip down to Old Trafford this Saturday.

Mikel Merino, who has been one of the most outstanding player in what has been a solid start to the new season for the Magpies, remains on the treatment table nursing a back injury, while club captain Jamaal  Lascelles  may not be featuring during the weekend.

Lascelles sustained an ankle injury during the recent 1-0 loss to Bournemouth, and is not expected to be fully fit in time for the trip to Manchester.

Christian Atsu, who picked up an injury while on international duty with Ghana, may also not be available for selection, meaning Benitez is now without three of his regular starters for what will be their biggest challenge of the season thus far.

The Red Devils however, too have their injury headache, and are too expected to be without a number of players.

Paul Pogba, who spent nine weeks on the sideline due to a hamstring injury, is a doubt for the tie, while defender Phil Jones is likely to be taken through a later assessment to determine if he will be fit enough to challenge the Magpies.

Newcastle travel to the Theatre of Dreams this Saturday in the day’s late kick-off at 5:30pm.
