Manchester City names player to replace Benjamin Mendy

Manchester City have named their ideal replacement for injured left-back Benjamin Mendy.

The Frenchman transfer to City in deal worth £52 million, a world record fee for a defender, but just after two month of playing in England, he picked up an ACL injury against Crystal Palace a week ago and having undergone surgery in Barcelona, will now be out till April, according to Pep Guardiola.

And despite Fabian Delph playing deputy really well in City’s last two games, along with Brazilian duo Danilo and Fernandinho rising up to the task, Guardiola has emphasize the need to sign a recognize a left-back and there’s no word on his favored choice.

According to Le Buteur, City are considering an option in Napoli left-back Faouzi Ghoulam.

The Algerian international is widely recognized as one of the top attacking left-backs in the world and has no intention of staying at San Paolo, where City will take a trip to on November 1 having been paired with Maurizio Sarri’s side in the Champions League group stage.

The 26-year old is in the final year of his contract and given that Napoli are at risk of losing him for free in the summer, the consensus is that they are hoping to cash in on him in January, with City touted as the most likely destination following Mendy’s lay-off.

Liverpool and Chelsea have also been linked with a move for th former Saint-Etienne player.

As for Mendy, he was watching his City teammates perform from his hospital bed as they went on to defeat reigning champions Chelsea 1-0 at Stamford Bridge.
