Chelsea are reportedly interested in signing Celtic striker Moussa Dembele, but they may go through a hard time trying to lure him away from the Scottish Champions.
The 20-year-old joined Brendan Rodgers’ side last summer, and went on to score 32 goals in 49 appearances across all competitions as played a key role in Celtic’s treble-winning campaign.
However, that outstanding form has made him a top target for several clubs, with The Daily Record reporting that both Chelsea and Borussia Dortmund are to test the resolve of the Hoops by making an offer for the £30 million rated forward.
It was suggested in the report that Michy Batshuayi is expected to leave after just 12 months at Stamford Bridge, while although Diego Costa will remain, Antonio Conte needs to add more depth and quality to his squad to enable his side compete on various fronts next season.
As for Dortmund, it almost sounds as though they are the frontrunners to sign Dembele if he decides to leave this summer. With potential transfer funds from the sale of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, coupled with a desire to make him the focal point up top next season, it could be a more attractive proposal compared to potentially waiting on the bench for better part of the season.
All this aside, it’s worth noting that Celtic will certainly hope the youngster will choose to continue with the club moving forward in order to help them sustain their success in the league and make an impression in Europe.
However, the lure of playing in the Premier League can’t be dismissed, and having conquered the SPL and domestic trophies all in one season, Dembele could be ready for a big move this summer.
