Brendan Rodgers hunts for new goalkeeper

Celtic is keeping tabs over Manchester City goalkeeper Angus Gunn and may try to offer a loan deal for him in the summer, according to The Sun.

Brendan Rodgers needs to find a solution to his goalkeeping crisis at the end of the season. Craig Gordon is now 35 and gradually entering into the final days of his career, while his deputy, the unconvincing Dorus De Vries, is even more advanced in age at 37.

During the January transfer window, Celtic sealed a loan deal with Dundee for Scott Bain and the 26-year-old has already played two games, including a memorable performance in last weekend’s 3-2 win over Rangers.

However, with him looking set to return to his parent club come season end, the Bhoys will need reinforcement between the sticks. And although Rodgers also has Northern Irishman Conor Hazard – currently on loan at Falkirk – and Ross Doohan on the books, he can be expected to bring in another goalkeeper in the summer.

England Under-21 international Gunn is currently on a loan spell at Norwich City, where he has registered 38 appearances this season, helping the Canaries to the 13th place in the Championship table.

His City team-mate Patrick Roberts has had two loan spells at Parkhead, emphasizing the close relationship between the two clubs, and he could be heading the same path.

As per The Sun, Gunn – the son of former Norwich and Scotland keeper Bryan – may be tempted to consent to a loan move north of the border.

Stoke City are reportedly also keeping tabs on the shotstopper, but Rodgers would be able to lure Gunn in with the opportunity to play European football.

The 22-year-old is known for outstanding shot-stopping and distribution skills, and he has a good fitness record as well. That could also be another deciding factor for Rodgers as he will be growing increasingly concerned with the number of injuries Gordon and De Vries have picked up.

While the former is back in training, he has not played any game since late January and the latter missed the Old Firm game after picking up a knock.
